Manager, Solutions Operations (Demand Response) 

Summary: 
The Manager, Solutions Operations will be fully responsible for managing the DR operations including participation in ISOs and EDCS, various DR programs that enhances Hess’ product offerings to its customers throughout Hess’ current footprint. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop detailed plans by ISO/EDC to participate in various auctions and RFPs to ensure adequate supply of the DR MW’s that supports the annual margin and net income goals. 

  • Coordination with engineering contractors, clients, utility contacts, and Hess staff to schedule audits. 

  • Performance of site surveys, including interview of customer, overview of facility, gathering of nameplate data, counting of fixtures and equipment, assessment of drawings, gathering of mechanical schedules, reading of usage data. 

  • Analysis of utility interval data to establish baseline energy consumption and demand IOUs response capacity. 

  • Development of demand response measures that is appropriate to the operating requirements, energy consuming systems, and energy management systems of the facility. 

  • Identification of infrastructure upgrades needed to support demand response and/or other products. 

  • Identification of available incentives and rebates for energy efficiency upgrades. 

  • Development of summary reports. 

  • Communication of results to internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Scheduling of electrical contractors, work with contractors to ensure job requirements are met, and perform random inspections of systems installed by contractors. 

  • Schedule and coordinate test systems and diagnose issues found during testing.

  • Work with facility managers and other customer personnel throughout the installation process. 

  • Diagnose issues related to existing systems and repair or coordinate others to restore systems. 

  • Manage incentive and rebates relating to available metering incentives and rebates. 

  • Assist Sales and Origination Managers with sales efforts.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

Associate Transmission Engineer (7350)
Gather and review of input data and system modeling assumptions necessary for load flow analyses and the interpretation & communication of results. Perform production cost modeling and load flow analyses (using Powerworld / PSSE / MUST, or other load flow programs) for the various regional electric power markets in the U.S. Act as interface within and external to the Marketing & Trading organization on transmission related matters. Apply knowledge of transmission, along with the rules of the wholesale power markets, to provide support to Marketing & Trading organizations. Asset Manager (7451)
Serve as the senior on-site manager and designated representative for the Project Management Company reporting directly to the owners and representing the owners’ interests in the project. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership & guidance to the Project Management Company staff, ensuring competitive generation through successful cost control and procurement strategies, and overseeing the contract O&M provider. General areas of focus include plant operations and maintenance, fuel supply and transportation, regulatory and environmental compliance, plant scheduling & dispatch support, contract administration, and budgeting and cost invoicing. Implement programs to ensure a culture of compliance with all applicable safety, security, environmental, hazardous materials and regulatory requirements. Implement and update plans for management of fuel procurement and transportation. Oversee the actions of plant operator, and any and all other third party contractors, assuring compliance under project agreements, including third-party professionals required to support the Project with respect to legal services, engineering services, accounting services, auditing and tax services, insurance services, environmental services, and public relations/community affairs. Oversee generation and support owner scheduling and dispatch of power from the project and to assure the delivery of power to the owners in accordance with the project agreements.
Ensure effective efficient coordination with all interconnecting utilities and commodity providers (rail, electric, gas, coal, etc.).

Must have a Degree in Engineering, a power generation O&M background and a minimum of 10-years of experience in power plant operations / asset management, with at least 5 years of solid fuel experience. An MBA, supercritical PRB experience, and experience in ERCOT are all positives.

Position Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for moderately complex contract negotiation and administration processes.

1. Prepares moderately complex energy contracts related to wholesale and retail commodities in accordance with approved legal standards.

2. Partners with EnergyPlus marketing and trading to expand business opportunities by obtaining priority contracts with companies that are beneficial business partners and administers contracts to maximize profitability. Prepares and coordinates applications for ISO/RTO memberships, wholesale and retail licenses, wholesale transmission and pipeline service.

3. Consults and works in cooperation with the Office of General Counsel, Credit Risk Management and other internal departments in order to manage and coordinate contract terms and conditions, resolve contract disputes, and track and support litigation matters.

4. Maintains a list of enabled and approved counterparties for marketing and trading purposes and communicates changes to PPL departments, EnergyPlus personnel and to affected counterparties.

5. Monitors industry developments, contract drafting committee recommendations and new regulations that could impact PPL energy contracts and related processes.

6. Assists in preparing or coordinating information for regulatory, legal and financial reporting or internal audits.

7. Solves a range of moderately complex contract related problems or issues. Analyzes possible solutions and provides technical guidance to EnergyPlus co-workers and/or customers. Customers include other departments in PPL, including settlement, mid-office, credit and accounting, and outside counterparties.

8. Builds in-depth knowledge of energy contract language, documentation processes and procedures to support the business needs of PPL EnergyPlus. Ensures the company's records are retained and managed according to record retention requirements.
